Polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDEs) in house dust in Beijing, China.
Eleven house dust samples were collected in Beijing to quantify 42 different polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDEs). Total PBDEs concentrations ranged from 140 to 1,300 ng g(-1). The dominant PBDEs congener identified was BDE 209, which made up more than 70% of all PBDEs congeners. Concentrations of PBDEs in Chinese house dust were lower than in other countries. The most polluted areas were ele...
متن کاملConcentrations and seasonal variations of polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDEs) in in- and out-house dust and human daily intake via dust ingestion corrected with bioaccessibility of PBDEs.
The objective of this study was to investigate the concentrations, seasonal variations, bioaccessibility, and associated human daily intake of polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDEs) in in- and out-house dust collected in Shanghai, China. The PBDE concentrations varied from 131.6 to 3,886.7 ng g(-1) (with an average of 948.2 ng g(-1)) in in-house dust and from 8.7 to 3,116.3 ng g(-1) (with an av...
متن کاملElevated house dust and serum concentrations of PBDEs in California: unintended consequences of furniture flammability standards?
Studies show higher house dust and body burden levels of PBDE flame retardants in North America than Europe; but little is known about exposure variation within North America, where California's furniture flammability standard affects PBDE use. We compared dust samples from 49 homes in two California communities with 120 Massachusetts homes and with other published studies. Dust concentrations ...
متن کاملSerum PBDEs in a North Carolina Toddler Cohort: Associations with Handwipes, House Dust, and Socioeconomic Variables
BACKGROUND Polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDEs) are persistent, bioaccumulative, and endocrine-disrupting chemicals. OBJECTIVES We used handwipes to estimate exposure to PBDEs in house dust among toddlers and examined sex, age, breast-feeding, race, and parents' education as predictors of serum PBDEs. METHODS Eighty-three children from 12 to 36 months of age were enrolled in North Carolin...
متن کاملHuman exposure to PBDEs: associations of PBDE body burdens with food consumption and house dust concentrations.
This study was designed to determine the body burden of polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDEs) among first-time mothers in the Greater Boston, Massachusetts area and to explore key routes of exposure. We collected breast milk samples from 46 first-time mothers, 2-8 weeks after birth. We also sampled house dust from the homes of a subset of participants by vacuuming commonly used areas. Data on ...
